Cinco1: Fala, Xuxu, diz aí pra gente como foi o teu início no skate? Com quantos anos tu começou a andar?

Xuxu: Meu primeiro contato com skate foi através do meu irmão Michel; eu cresci olhando ele andar.

Mas só fui ter meu primeiro skate em 1995 com 11 anos de idade.

Desde então! Mais de 30 anos de AMOR E ÓDIO. Kkkkkkk

Cinco1: Avançando no tempo, o que te fez mudar para Porto Alegre?

Xuxu: Esse é um assunto delicado e de superação pessoal.

Me envolvi com muita coisa errada, fui dependente químico, fiquei 2 anos sem andar de skate e digamos que vir para Porto Alegre foi uma fuga de tudo e um novo recomeço para mim, focando 100% no skate como estilo de vida.

Cinco1: Como tu vê a cena de skate atual?

Xuxu: Prefiro não ver! Kkkkk

A cena underground sempre vai existir e foda-se as olimpíadas. Kkkkkk

Não! Sério. Acho que tem muito skatista foda que tá dando o sangue na rua e fazendo a coisa acontecer de verdade. Mas a gente tá vendo marcas que se dizem de skate usando IA pra fazer comerciais (tá de sacanagem, né).

Custa valorizarem e reconhecerem os skatistas?

Muita mídia, skate em alta, mas pouco retorno concreto pra cultura e para os skatistas.

Cinco1: Hoje em dia tu atua bastante como árbitro nos campeonatos, na hora de julgar uma manobra, tu valoriza mais a dificuldade ou o estilo?

Xuxu: A gente avalia o conjunto da obra, estilo, velocidade, precisão, fluidez, constância, grau de dificuldade e por aí vai.

Mas confesso que não pegar o skate na mão durante uma volta é muito legal.

Cinco1: Sei que tu tá trabalhando em uma vídeo parte, desde quando tu tá gravando pra esse projeto, e tem ideia de quando sai?

Xuxu: Esse vídeo já estava pronto, mas o Rafa Webber pediu para eu filmar uma parada e daí eu decidi que ia filmar mais algumas coisas. Estou em um momento fantástico, curtindo o processo e coletando material, sem data prevista e sem pressa. (A hora que eu achar que tá bom, eu solto.) Realização pessoal!

Cinco1: Falando de viagens, qual o lugar mais da hora que tu conheceu andando de skate?

Xuxu: Com certeza BARCELONA; é muito pico por metro quadrado. Kkkkk

É um paraíso pra quem gosta de andar na rua.

Cinco1: Tu já teve uma marca, conta pra gente qual a melhor parte e a mais complicada de ser dono de marca?

Xuxu: A parte mais legal é desenvolver e ver a coisa andar. (É gratificante demais)

O que mais me incomodou foi tomar golpe e calote de skatistas. (E a lista é GRANDE kkkkk)

Cinco1: Quando eu vejo um pico alto, difícil, já lembro de ti na hora para registrar alguma. De onde vem essa tua preferência por esse tipo de pico?

Xuxu: Eu pulei muito muro fugindo da polícia quando era jovem! (brincadeira kkkkk)

Então, eu já andei em bowl, corrimão, tive a fase da mini-ramp, mas eu sempre tive um pira de pular as coisas. (desafiar a mim mesmo, saca?)

Tipo: Pulei 1 tijolo, legal. Agora vou pular 2, depois 3, será que eu pulo 10 tijolos? Kkkkkk

E assim fui criando a minha identidade e personalidade em cima do que eu gostava mais.

Cinco1: Hey, Xuxu, tell us how you first got into skateboarding. How old were you when you started?

Xuxu: My first contact with skateboarding was through my brother Michel; I grew up watching him ride. But I only got my first skateboard in 1995, when I was 11 years old. Since then, it’s been more than 30 years of love and hate. Hahaha

Cinco1: Moving forward, what made you move to Porto Alegre?

Xuxu: That’s a delicate subject, tied to personal recovery. I got involved with a lot of bad stuff, became chemically dependent, spent two years away from skateboarding, and let’s say moving to Porto Alegre was an escape from all of that and a new beginning for me, focusing 100% on skateboarding as a way of life.

Cinco1: How do you see the current skate scene?

Xuxu: I’d rather not look! Hahaha. The underground scene will always exist, and screw the Olympics. Hahaha. No, seriously. I think there are a lot of amazing skaters out there giving everything in the streets and making things happen for real. But we’re seeing brands that claim to be skate brands using AI to make commercials — are you kidding me?
Is it so hard to value and recognize skaters? So much media, skateboarding is “hot,” but very little concrete return for the culture and for the skaters.

Cinco1: These days you also work a lot as a judge in contests. When judging a trick, do you value difficulty or style more?

Xuxu: We evaluate the whole package: style, speed, precision, flow, consistency, degree of difficulty, and so on. But I have to admit, not having to grab the board during a run is really cool.

Cinco1: I know you’re working on a video part. Since when have you been filming for this project, and do you have any idea when it’ll come out?

Xuxu: That video was already finished, but Rafa Webber asked me to film something, so I decided to keep filming a few more things. I’m in a fantastic moment, enjoying the process and collecting footage, with no set date and no rush. I’ll drop it whenever I think it’s good enough. Personal fulfillment!

Cinco1: Speaking of trips, what’s the coolest place you’ve discovered while skateboarding?

Xuxu: Definitely Barcelona; there are so many spots per square meter. Hahaha. It’s paradise for anyone who likes street skating.

Cinco1: You’ve had a brand before, so tell us: what’s the best part and the hardest part of owning a brand?

Xuxu: The best part is developing it and seeing things move forward. It’s incredibly rewarding. What bothered me most was getting scammed and left unpaid by skaters. And the list is huge, hahaha.

Cinco1: Whenever I see a tall, difficult spot, I instantly think of you to capture it. Where does your preference for that kind of spot come from?

Xuxu: I used to jump a lot of walls while running from the police when I was young! Just kidding, hahaha. I’ve skated bowls and rails and had my mini-ramp phase, but I’ve always been drawn to jumping over things, challenging myself, you know? Like: I cleared one brick, cool. Now I’ll try two, then three, then maybe ten bricks? Hahaha. And that’s how I started building my own identity and personality around what I liked most.
